Obverse description Armored and bearded bust of Louis II de Bourbon-Montpensier facing left, with short cropped hair, wearing a ruffled collar and plate armor visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a late Renaissance style typical of French feudal coinage of the period. The circular legend runs along the coin's periphery, interrupted by the bust, with the inscription reading from the lower left.

Reverse description Crowned shield bearing the quarterly arms of Bourbon, displaying fleurs-de-lis in the first and fourth quarters and a bend in the second and third quarters, set within a decorative frame. Flanking the crowned shield on either side are two crowned interlaced lambdas (monograms of Louis), a heraldic device associated with the prince. The date 1576 appears integrated within the circumferential legend, which runs along the full periphery of the coin.
