Obverse description Laureate and armored bust of Charles IX facing left, with a ruffled collar and elaborately engraved plate armor visible at the shoulder. The king's effigy is rendered in the Renaissance portrait style typical of French royal coinage of the period. The encircling legend reads CAROLVS VIIII D G FRAN REX, with the mint mark B visible at the base of the bust. The portrait displays the characteristic bearded profile of the young king, consistent with late issues struck posthumously in his name.
