Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Henry II facing right, rendered in high relief with a bearded effigy wearing a laurel wreath and armored pauldron. The portrait is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, with the royal legend running along the outer field. The bust is depicted in the Italian Renaissance portrait style characteristic of mid-16th century French coinage, with fine detailing in the hair and drapery. The legend is separated from the central device by a raised beaded border.
