Reverse description Central shield of the French royal arms — three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one — surmounted by a closed royal crown flanked by two smaller crowns in the upper field. The initials N and H flank the shield to left and right respectively in the mid-field. The date 1603 appears in the upper portion of the surrounding legend, which reads + DNS • ADVITOR • ET • REDEM • MEVS • 1603, a devotional inscription invoking divine protection. The overall composition follows the standard feudal teston type struck at the Trévoux mint.
