| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of King Francis I of France depicted in high relief, wearing an ornate crown and elaborately decorated armour with visible gorget and pauldron. The royal effigy fills the inner field, rendered in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of early sixteenth-century French coinage. The king's long flowing hair is visible beneath the crown. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, interrupted by the mint mark and pellets. |

| Reverse description | Crowned shield of France bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged two above one, set within an ornate cartouche and surmounted by a royal crown with elaborate fleurons. The shield is centrally positioned in the field, flanked by decorative foliate scrollwork. A circular Latin legend invoking the Christogram surrounds the central device, reading XPS VINCIT XPS REGNAT XPS IMPERAT, a traditional formula asserting the sovereignty of Christ. |
