The quartered or divided coat of arms is rendered in the characteristic style of early seventeenth-century ecclesiastical coinage of Lorraine. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading 'MONET NO AN 1610 CV', indicating this as a new coinage of Verdun struck in the year 1610. The flan edges are slightly uneven, consistent with hammered production. The overall die work is competent for provincial billon coinage of this period. |
