The mint mark H appears at the base of the portrait. The circular Latin legend surrounding the effigy reads CAROLVS IX D G FRA REX MDLXXIIII H, giving the king's name, title, and the date in Roman numerals. |

The shield occupies the majority of the reverse field. Surrounding the arms is the Latin pious motto legend, with the date 1574 incorporated into the inscription. |
