| Obverse description | Laureate and armored bust of Charles IX facing left, with a short beard and flowing hair beneath the laurel wreath, dressed in richly decorated Renaissance plate armor with ornamental pauldrons. The mint mark H appears at the base of the portrait. The circular Latin legend surrounding the effigy reads CAROLVS IX D G FRA REX MDLXXIIII H, giving the king's name, title, and the date in Roman numerals. |
