| Beschrijving voorzijde | Crowned eagle of Gdańsk displayed facing, with wings spread and talons outstretched, rendered in bold relief in the hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Polish municipal coinage. The eagle bears a crowned shield on its breast and is depicted without a surrounding legend, the design filling the coin's field to the beaded inner border. The treatment of the plumage and wing feathers is stylized, consistent with the Gdańsk civic heraldic tradition. |

The Gdańsk trzeciak — a three-grosz piece struck for Poland's most commercially active port city — reflects the mint's semi-autonomous status under Sigismund III, who spent much of his reign fighting Swedish dynastic claims to a throne he believed was rightfully his. Gdańsk retained minting privileges partly as a concession to its powerful merchant class, whose tax revenues and naval access the Crown could not afford to alienate. The Kopicki references spanning this short run suggest at least three catalogued die variants across the four-year production window.
