| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in flowing Naskh script, arranged in horizontal registers across the flan. The inscription contains the Kalima or pious formulae along with the ruler's name and titulature. The lettering is boldly struck in high relief against a flat field, characteristic of Timurid hammered silver coinage. The irregular flan edge, typical of hand-cut planchets of the period, is visible around the periphery. An additional cursive marginal inscription runs along the upper rim. |

The reverse bears the countermark of Abu Sa'id applied over the original strike, partially obscuring underlying legends. Shahrukh's long reign over Khorasan and Transoxiana saw a deliberate reassertion of Timurid authority after the fragmentation that followed Timur's death in 1405. Countermarking existing coin stock — rather than melting and restriking — was an administratively efficient way to validate currency across territories still consolidating under his rule. The practice also means survivors exist in a wide range of underlying strike quality, since the host coin could be anything from crisp to nearly obliterated before the countermark was applied.
Herat served as the primary mint and cultural capital under Shahrukh, who cultivated it into one of the great centers of Islamic learning and Persian manuscript production.
