The Kart dynasty ruled Herat as nominal vassals — first of the Ilkhanids, then the Timurids — but Ghiyath al-Din II Pir ʿAli governed during the precarious interlude between those two powers. His reign ended in 1389 when Timur sacked Herat, executed him, and effectively erased the Kart line from history. Coins from his tenure are the dynasty's last independent issues.
Album 2353A is among the scarcer Kart types. Herat's mint output in this final decade was almost certainly disrupted by Timurid military pressure well before the city fell.
