Additional information

Farrukhsiyar ibn Khalil Allah ruled Shirvan during a period of intense geopolitical pressure, caught between the expanding Aq Qoyunlu confederation to the west and the early stirrings of Safavid power to the south. The Shirvanshah rulers of this period maintained a degree of autonomy through careful diplomacy rather than military strength, and their coinage reflects a functioning local economy despite the surrounding instability.

The tanka denomination in silver was the workhorse of Caucasian regional trade during this period. Album's A#2471.1-5 range indicates at least five catalogued die varieties for this type.
