A rectangular countermark applied in intaglio is prominently struck at centre, bearing the name or title of Burhan Sayyid, the local ruler at Bukhara. The surrounding field displays the original host coin's legends, partially obscured by the countermark's impression. The flan is irregular and slightly dished, consistent with hammered Central Asian silver coinage of the mid-sixteenth century. |
