These pieces were struck at Dresden under the authority of Friedrich August II, Elector of Saxony, who ruled Poland-Lithuania as Augustus III. The "Ksawery as Polish Prince" designation refers to Prince Xavier of Saxony, who served as regent of the Commonwealth from 1764 following his father's death — a stopgap arrangement while the Convocation Sejm maneuvered toward electing Stanisław August Poniatowski. Xavier never became king, and his regency lasted only months, making this a politically transitional issue produced under genuinely uncertain succession.
