Obverse description Equestrian portrait of Augustus II the Strong (Friedrich August I, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland) facing right, depicted in full armour with flowing mantle and long curled wig, holding a baton of command. The horse rears dramatically on its hind legs. Beneath the horse, a finely engraved crowned electoral and royal coat of arms, elaborately mantled. The scene is rendered in high relief with exceptional baroque artistic quality against a smooth field, with a reeded border visible at the rim.
