Obverse description Armored bust of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing articulated plate armor with a ruff collar and a crown, the king depicted with a short beard in the Renaissance portrait style. A scepter or baton is visible over the right shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the armoring. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the Latin royal title legend running continuously around the periphery.

Reverse description Crowned quartered shield of arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, displaying the Polish Eagle, the Lithuanian Pursuer (Pahonia), the Sforza serpent (Batory family arms), and the Eagle of Russia-Ruthenia, with a small escutcheon at center. The ornate shield is surmounted by a royal crown. The date is divided by the shield on either side. A continuous Latin legend citing the king's territorial titles runs around the periphery within a beaded border.
