Jan II Kazimierz's early 1650s were catastrophic by almost any measure — the Khmelnytsky Uprising had gutted the Commonwealth's eastern territories, the treasury was depleted, and Swedish invasion was two years away. The Wschowa mint, operating under lease arrangements common to the period, was one of several provincial facilities pressed into talar production as royal finances buckled under sustained military expenditure.
The Kopicki references span three distinct die combinations, reflecting the mint's output across the two-year run rather than a single unified issue. Wschowa talers from this period are notably prone to die rust and uneven flan preparation — a product of the mint's secondary status relative to Bydgoszcz.
