Reverse description The arms of Gdańsk displayed within an ornate oval cartouche surmounted by a royal crown: the shield bearing two crosses pattée in pale beneath a third cross pattée, the traditional civic arms of the city. The cartouche is supported on either side by rampant lions as heraldic supporters, each grasping the shield, while above the crown a spread eagle with outstretched wings and a laurel branch forms a decorative crest. The mint date 1649 appears in the lower field between the supporters, accompanied by the mint-master's initials GR. The peripheral Latin legend MONETA ARGENTEA CIVITATIS GEDANENSIS, meaning 'Silver Coin of the City of Gdańsk', runs within a beaded border.
