The Toruń mint was granted to the Crown following the Second Peace of Toruń in 1466, but its output under Sigismund I was complicated by chronic tension between royal minting authority and the city's powerful merchant class, who had their own ideas about currency quality. The 1528 pruski sixpence denomination was tied directly to the commercial needs of Royal Prussia, a region integrated into Poland but operating under distinct monetary agreements with Gdańsk, Elbląg, and Toruń itself.
Kopicki 3100 places this among the scarcer Toruń sixpence emissions of the reign.
