Struck at Toruń in the immediate aftermath of the Second Northern War, this six-ducat piece belongs to a moment when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was financially exhausted and politically humiliated — the 1657 Treaty of Wehlau had just surrendered Polish suzerainty over Ducal Prussia, and Jan Kazimierz was desperately shoring up both revenue and prestige. Large multiple-ducat issues from this mint in this period were produced in tiny numbers, functioning more as diplomatic gifts and royal presentations than as circulating currency. The Kop(-) reference confirms no standard Kopicki attribution exists, placing this among pieces documented individually rather than as a catalogued type.
