| Aanvullende informatie |
Elbing had been a prosperous Hanseatic city under Polish suzerainty when Swedish forces occupied it in 1626 during the Polish-Swedish War. Gustavus Adolphus used the city's mint — already an established operation — to produce small-denomination coinage that served the occupying army's logistical needs and the local economy simultaneously. The city retained a degree of civic autonomy under Swedish control, which explains why these pieces were issued under the city's own authority rather than purely in the king's name.
The occupation ended with the Truce of Altmark in September 1629, though Swedish administration continued in Elbing until 1635.
