The central field bears a four-line Latin inscription in bold upright lettering: 'SOLID / CIVITAT / GEDAN' (abbreviation for Solidus Civitatis Gedanensis, i.e. Schilling of the City of Danzig). Below, flanking a small crown over a cross ornament, appear the letters 'RE' to the left and 'OE' to the right, likely denoting the mint master or assayer initials.
