Obverse description The obverse reproduces the quadriga scene from the famous Syracusan decadrachm: a four-horse chariot driven at full gallop to the right, with a Nike figure flying above crowning the horses, and an armed warrior in the exergue below a ground line. The design is a faithful relief copy of the classical Greek coin type attributed to the engraver Kimon, circa 5th century BC.
