| Obverse description | Densely packed multi-line Arabic legend filling the entire field in flowing Naskh script, contained within a plain linear border with a dotted outer rim. The inscription names the sultan and his lineage, reading: Sultan Selim Shah bin Sultan Suleiman Khan — May his victory be exalted. The mint name Damascus (دمشق) and the AH regnal year 974 appear in the lower portion of the field. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan shape and bold, overlapping strokes typical of mid-sixteenth-century Ottoman hammered gold coinage. |
