Obverse description Hammered gold flan of irregular planchet bearing a multi-line Arabic legend in bold raised script, arranged across the entire field without a central motif. The inscription names Sultan Mehmed son of İbrahim Khan and invokes the formula 'may his victory be glorious,' followed by the mint name Misr (Cairo) and the AH date 1058. A small rosette or pellet ornament appears at the centre of the legend arrangement, typical of Ottoman Egyptian sultani coinage. The periphery shows a border of small pellets or dots where the flan edge permits, characteristic of hammered Ottoman gold issues.
