Reverse description A wounded Schutztruppe soldier stands defiantly facing forward, his uniform torn to expose his torso, holding a rifle with fixed bayonet in his left hand and grasping a large flag with his right, set against a dramatic billowing background. The dates 1914 and 1918 appear in the right field, with the legend DEUTSCHES HELDENTUM IN OSTAFRIKA along the right border, and GETREU BIS IN DEN TOD along the lower border. The engraver's signature L. CHR. LAUER NÜRNBERG and a monogram are visible in the lower left field.
