| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central small cross pattée set within a beaded inner circle, with the field occupied by the legend reading + EANBALD in angular Anglo-Saxon letterforms arranged around the cross. The inscription names Eanbald II, Archbishop of York, the issuing ecclesiastical authority. The design is characteristic of the late Northumbrian styca tradition, with the legend filling the space between the central motif and the outer beaded border. The flan is irregular and slightly oval, as typical of hand-struck pieces of this period. |
