| Obverse description | Central small cross pattée enclosed within a beaded inner circle, the quadrants between the arms of the cross each containing a pellet or wedge-shaped element typical of Phase IIci dies. The surrounding field bears the royal legend disposed around the beaded circle. The flan is characteristically irregular and slightly convex, consistent with ninth-century Northumbrian hammered coinage of debased alloy. |
