Obverse description Centrally positioned stylized Hindu deity motif, likely representing Lord Vishnu or a related iconographic symbol, rendered in a highly schematic and abstracted manner characteristic of VOC coinage struck at Negapatnam for local circulation. The central device features a trident-like or arch-shaped element with flanking curved appendages and globular pellets arranged in a triangular formation below, evoking a traditional South Indian religious emblem. Two circular pellets flank the central motif in the field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border following the irregular flan edge. The style reflects a deliberate adaptation of indigenous Hindu iconography to facilitate acceptance among the local Tamil population.
