| Reverse description | The reverse bears a Tamil inscription arranged in two registers separated by a plain horizontal line dividing the field. The upper register contains Tamil characters identifying the mint city of Negapatnam (நாகபட்டணம்), while the lower register carries additional Tamil script. The legends are enclosed within a beaded border conforming to the irregular polygonal flan. The script is boldly rendered though somewhat crudely executed, consistent with hammered copper coinage produced for local trade in the Coromandel Coast region under VOC administration. |
