Reverse description A bold long cross pattée extends to the coin's edge, dividing the reverse field into four equal quarters. Each quarter contains a multi-petalled rosette in raised relief, rendered in the Gothic floral style prevalent on Low Countries sterlings of the late 13th century. The legend, broken into four segments by the arms of the cross, reads IOH ANЄ SCO MЄS, an abbreviated Latin inscription identifying Count John. An inner beaded or milled circle frames the cross and rosettes, with the outer legend legend occupying the space between this inner border and the coin's irregular rim.
