Obverse description Frontal facing bust of John of Leuven enclosed within a plain inner circle, the effigy depicted wearing a crown of roses with stylised petals visible above the brow. The bust is rendered in the flat, linear manner characteristic of late 13th-century Low Countries hammered coinage, with schematic facial features and a broad, squared torso. The surrounding legend in uncial characters runs clockwise between the inner circle and the irregular coin edge, separated by annulets as word dividers.
