| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold long cross pattée extends to the inner beaded circle, dividing the reverse field into four quadrants. Each quadrant contains a group of three pellets arranged in a triangular formation, a design directly inspired by the English sterling coinage of the period. The surrounding legend, broken into four segments by the arms of the cross, reads VAL-ЄnC-hЄn-ЄnS, identifying the mint city of Valenciennes, the principal monetary workshop of the County of Hainaut. The outer border exhibits an irregular flan edge typical of hand-hammered medieval silver coinage. |
