| Obverse description | Central device depicts a heraldic shield bearing a rampant lion to the left, rendered in high relief in the characteristic bold medieval style. The lion displays forked tail and raised forepaw, consistent with the arms of Brabant. The shield is set within a circular circumscription, with the surrounding field showing the peripheral legend in uncial letterforms. The striking is irregular, as typical of hammered coinage of this period, with portions of the legend visible at the upper rim. |
