Christ is shown bearded with a nimbus, raising his right hand in benediction and holding a jewelled book of gospels decorated with five gems in his left hand. The Christogram IC XC flanks the figure in the upper left and right fields respectively, a convention standard to Byzantine-influenced Serbian medieval coinage. The overall style closely follows the Venetian grosso prototype widely imitated across the medieval Balkans. |
