| Obverse description | Central device features the Basel civic shield, displaying the distinctive Basel crozier (bishop's staff) in the upper portion and a pointed base below, all contained within a pointed heraldic shield. The shield is set within a raised inner circle, with four small pellets or bosses positioned at the cardinal points around the circumference, characteristic of Basel bracteate-style minor coinage. The flan is irregular and characteristically thin, consistent with hammered medieval small silver coinage. No legend is present on this denomination. |

| Additional information |
The Stebler was Basel's smallest silver denomination, issued at a moment when the city's monetary affairs were under significant strain. 1386 places this squarely in the aftermath of the Battle of Sempach, a conflict that reshaped the political balance between the Swiss Confederation and the Habsburgs and drew Basel into complex diplomatic positioning. Coins of this weight and type circulated hard and fast in local markets, which is precisely why survivors in any discernible condition are scarce.
