Stater with winged character

The Osismii occupied the westernmost tip of Armorica — the Crozon and Léon peninsulas of what is now Finistère — placing them at the geographic and cultural edge of the Gaulish world. Their gold coinage drew heavily on earlier Armorican traditions ultimately derived from the Macedonian stater of Philip II, though by this period the abstraction had progressed so far that the original figurative sources are barely recoverable. The "var." designation against DT#2206 suggests a die or stylistic deviation not fully catalogued by Delestrée and Tache, which is unsurprising given how loosely the Osismii's output was standardized.
