Kelenderis was a Cilician coastal city whose silver coinage emerges in the early fifth century BC, likely connected to the region's role in Persian-administered maritime trade. The stater series attributed to this mint is among the earliest struck in Rough Cilicia, predating the more prolific issues of Tarsos and Nagidos by some margin.
SNG Levante 1 places this at the very beginning of the die sequence, suggesting an inaugural or near-inaugural issue — a designation that carries real weight for a mint whose early output was limited.
