Stater - Stasandros

Paphos was among the Cypriot kingdoms that navigated an extraordinarily precarious position during the mid-fifth century BC, nominally subject to Achaemenid Persian authority while culturally and commercially entangled with the Greek world. Stasandros ruled during precisely this tension, when Cyprus served as a recurring flashpoint between Persian ambition and Athenian expansion — the Delian League's campaigns in the eastern Mediterranean brought Athenian warships within reach of Cypriot waters more than once during this window.

The kingdom of Paphos produced a relatively small corpus of silver coinage, and Stasandros issues are among the rarer royal attributions from the island. The Tziambazis and SilCoinCy references document only a handful of die pairings across collections.
