| Popis líce | Bearded male figure, identified as Baaltars (the Baal of Tarsus), seated left upon a throne with ornate lion-leg supports, his semi-draped body shown in three-quarter view. The deity holds an eagle in his raised right hand and rests his left hand upon the throne arm; a sceptre or long staff rises vertically before him. An ankh-like symbol appears in the left field, and Aramaic characters are visible in the right field. The style reflects the hybrid Graeco-Persian artistic tradition characteristic of Cilician satrapal coinage of the early fourth century BC. |

The portrait, identified as the satrap Pharnabazus II, displays finely detailed curling beard and hair locks, with cheek-guards of the helmet framing the face. An Aramaic inscription appears to the left of the portrait in the field. The bold, high-relief modelling of the head reflects the accomplished die-cutting associated with the Tarsus mint during the satrapal period. |
