Obverse description Bearded male figure, identified as Baaltars (the Baal of Tarsus), seated left upon a throne with ornate lion-leg supports, his semi-draped body shown in three-quarter view. The deity holds an eagle in his raised right hand and rests his left hand upon the throne arm; a sceptre or long staff rises vertically before him. An ankh-like symbol appears in the left field, and Aramaic characters are visible in the right field. The style reflects the hybrid Graeco-Persian artistic tradition characteristic of Cilician satrapal coinage of the early fourth century BC.

Reverse description Bearded male head in left profile, wearing a crested Attic helmet with an elaborately rendered plume of fine parallel lines sweeping to the right. The portrait, identified as the satrap Pharnabazus II, displays finely detailed curling beard and hair locks, with cheek-guards of the helmet framing the face. An Aramaic inscription appears to the left of the portrait in the field. The bold, high-relief modelling of the head reflects the accomplished die-cutting associated with the Tarsus mint during the satrapal period.
