| Beschrijving keerzijde | Zeus Ammon, the syncretic deity of Kyrene combining Greek and Egyptian iconography, is depicted enthroned to the left upon a high-backed throne. In his extended right hand he holds an eagle, while his left hand grasps a long scepter; before him in the left field stands a thymiaterion (incense burner). The magistrate's name XAIPIOΣ is inscribed vertically in the field behind the deity, identifying this issue with the eponymous magistrate Chairios during the governorship of Ophellas. The composition reflects the strong Ammonite religious identity of Kyrenaean coinage in this period. |
