Obverse description Griffin leaping to left in high relief, depicted in the characteristic Abderan style with spread wings rendered with finely engraved feather detail, lion's hindquarters, and an eagle's head with open beak. The creature's forelegs are raised in dynamic motion, conveying vigorous forward momentum. The abbreviated civic ethnic ΑΒΔΗ appears in the lower field beneath the griffin, serving as a partial legend identifying the issuing city of Abdera. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with the hammered coinage of Thracian Greek mints of this period.
