| Obverse description | Diademed and youthful male head of Mithridates VI Eupator in right profile, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with idealizing features reminiscent of Alexander the Great. The hair is elaborately styled with flowing, deeply engraved locks radiating outward from the crown and falling behind the neck, conveying both regal authority and divine pretension. A plain diadem encircles the head, its ends trailing behind the ear. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine, expressive modeling of the facial features, including a strong jaw, prominent nose, and slightly parted lips. The field surrounding the effigy is smooth and unlettered. |
