Obverse description Facing lion's scalp rendered in bold high relief, the broad muzzle with gaping jaws and prominent fangs depicted frontally. The heavily maned head fills the flan, with stylized tufts of fur radiating outward and two large, rounded eye sockets giving the effigy a striking, almost heraldic quality. The treatment is characteristic of Lycian dynastic coinage of the late fifth to early fourth century BC, combining naturalistic anatomical detail with a powerful decorative sensibility.
