| Reverse description | A square incuse punch frames a stylized grapevine motif at the centre, with heavily laden bunches of grapes suspended from scrolling branches, reflecting Maroneia's celebrated wine production. Surrounding the central square on all four sides, arranged in a cruciform pattern, is the Greek magistrate's name legend ΜΗΤΡΟΦΑΝΗΣ, with individual letters disposed along each border of the incuse square. The incuse technique is characteristic of early Thracian coinage, and the vine motif serves as the principal civic type of Maroneia. The overall design is executed with confident, if somewhat archaic, die-cutting. |
