Reverse description The reverse features a lion attacking a bull, both rendered in vigorous relief with the lion seizing the bull from above. The scene is set within a dotted border or linear square, a common compositional device on Cilician staters of this period. The powerful naturalistic treatment of the animals reflects the mature Achaemenid artistic tradition and the skilled die-cutters active at Tarsus under Mazaeus. Aramaic lettering identifying the satrap or regional authority appears in the field.
