Obverse description Facing left, the bearded head of a satyr in high relief, rendered with distinctly archaic stylistic energy characteristic of Panticapaean coinage. The satyr displays his characteristic attributes: a pointed beard, a prominent pug nose, and a goat's ear, all executed with fine engraving. An ivy wreath encircles the head, its leaves carefully delineated in the field. The portrait exhibits the bold, expressive modeling typical of the finest Greek colonial die-cutters working in the Pontic region during the fourth century BC.
