Obverse description Facing head of the satyr Pan rendered in high relief, with wild dishevelled hair, a broad flat nose, and a full beard with finely engraved strands. The powerful, slightly asymmetrical face is depicted in three-quarter view facing the viewer, with deeply set eyes and a characteristically bestial expression. The naturalistic modelling of the hair and beard reflects the accomplished late Classical Greek die-cutting tradition of the Pontic region. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse field.
