Obverse description Confronted foreparts of a lion and a bull facing one another in the field: the lion forepart to the right occupies the left portion of the flan, rendered with pronounced globular mane, open jaws, and a boldly modelled eye, while the bull forepart to the left displays a striated body and curling horn. The two heraldic figures meet at center, their chests nearly touching, in a composition characteristic of the official royal Kroisos coinage of Sardis. No legend or inscription is present; the design fills the entire irregular flan in the archaic Lydian artistic tradition.
